Former NFLer Keyshawn Johnson becomes an assistant high school football coach

Former USC and NFL receiver Keyshawn Johnson, who played his high school football at Dorsey High in Los Angeles, has been named as an assistant football coach by head coach Bob Johnson

According to OCVarsity.com, Keyshawn, who currently serves as an NFL analyst on ESPN, will coach the Diablos' receivers.  The hiring reunites Keyshawn with Bob Johnson's son Rob, who also coaches receivers - Rob and Keyshawn were teammates at USC.  Rob and his brother Bret, both have experience playing quarterback in the NFL.

The OCVarsity.com story states that Keyshawn, whose son will be a freshman at Mission Viejo this year, will attend Tuesday and Wednesday practices and attend about half of the team's games.

So if you're counting, there are four Johnson's on the varsity coaching staff.

Mater Dei wins Air Strike 7-on-7 passing tournament

Mater Dei Monarchs footballWas Mater Dei's run through the extremely tough Air Strike 7-on-7 Passing Tournament at Dana Hills High School a sign of things to come in Southern California in 2013?

The 2012 CIF PAC-5 runner-ups beat Chaminade 14-13 in the finals of the day-long event that featured some of the top teams throughout the High School Football America/SoCal listening area.

According to Dan Albano of OCVarsity.com, the Monarchs, who last won the Air Strike in 2010 where perfect on the day.

Mater Dei was a perfect 7-0 on the day.  Chaminade's only two losses were to the Monarchs.  In the semifinals: Mater Dei beat Hart, while Chaminade beat Santa Margarita.

Also participating in the tourney were: Alemany, Dana Hills, Edison, Huntington Beach, Long Beach Poly, Mission Hills, Narbonne, Oaks Christian, St. Bonaventure, San Juan Hills, Valencia and Upland.
