#3 De La Salle Outlasts #14 Centennial For California Title


#14 Centennial almost came-up with one of the best comebacks in high school footballl championship game history Saturday against one of the nation's top programs...the De La Salle Spartans.

Centennial foughts back from a 31-7 second quarter deficit to tie the game at 31-31. However, De La Salle, which entered the game ranked #3 by USA Today and still stingy from last year's California Division I championship game loss to Canyon Country Canyon,
was able to regain its composure and win the Division I title with a 37-31 win.

St. Bonaventure Beats Modesto Central Catholic 35-21 for California Division III Bowl Championship


California's Division III State Bowl Championship game between St. Bonaventure and Modesto Central Catholic came down to the final quarter, and that's when one of the best running back's in the country took over.

St. Bonaventure's Darrell Scott scored on a 10-yard touchdown run to put his team up 28-21. Then with about two minutes to go, Scott iced it with a 16-yard flea-flicker touchdown pass to quarterback Casey Serna.

Scott played his final high school game with 17 carries for 150-yards despite a sore ankle that he twisted on his first carry.

Finalists for California State Bowl Championships Announced


#3 De La Salle (Concord, CA) will face #14 Centennial (Corona, CA) for California's Division I championship Saturday at the Home Depot Center.

The choice of Centennial was a tough one with nationally-ranked Birmingham (Lake Balboa, CA) and Long Beach Poly vying for the spot. In De La Salle, Centennial will have its hands full with a team that was won 16 North Coast Section championships. The Spartans played in last year's inaugural State Bowl and was ranked #1 in the country before losing to Canyon Country 27-13.

The Division II championship will feature San Diego Section champ Oceanside playing Novato. In Division III, St. Bonaventure (Ventura, CA) plays Modesto Central Catholic.

#17 Birmingham Wins LA City Section Championship


Birmingham's great season continued Friday night with its 41-6 win over Carson to capture the CIF Southern Section City title.

The win puts the Lake Balboa squad in position to possibly play for a state championship next week. The three championship match-ups will be announced on Sunday. Birmingham is currently on a 13-game win streak and owns wins over Long Beach Poly, which is currently ranked #23 by USA Today and Sherman Oaks Notre Dame.

The Patriots were led in the title game by running back Milton Knox who scored three touchdowns on 20 carries for 179 yards.

Novato Wins California North Coast Section 2A Title


Novato's 25th straight win Friday night against Las Lomas not only gave the Hornets its second straight North Coast Section 2A championship, but also makes the team eligible for the California Interscholastic Federation Division II state bowl game next week.

Las Lomas actually jumped out to a 14-0 lead, but Novato scored 34 unanswered points on the way to a 34-21 win at Santa Rosa High School.
