2010 California High School Football Previews
by Jeff Fisher
California High School Football Huddle
Looks like I won't be making it to California for the start of the high school football season this year, but thought I'd post one of my favorite fields in the state.
I love Laguna Beach High School's Guyer Field football field because of its beautiful ocean view...not to mention I just love Laguna Beach.
Anyway, media across the state are beginning to put out 2010 team previews so I will be adding to the list as they come up. All you have to do is click on the school name to be taken to the articles that pertain that specific team.
Enjoy!

California Tries to Clear-up High School Football Championship Game Qualifications
by Jeff Fisher
California High School Football Huddle
I consider myself a fairly intelligent person, however, when it comes to the way California chooses its high school football championship game participants...let's just say, I'm confused, like most fans.
The only thing you can count on is, De La Salle WILL play for a title. The Spartans are the only school to play on every championship weekend since the the state title games began in 2006.
Let's face it, without a true playoff system, it will always be "kind of" an arbitrary thing.
So with that in mind, the California Interscholastic Federation has changed its selection parameters for this year's game at the Home Depot Center in Carson.
Basically, the CIF has placed its 10 sections in three divisions based on competitive equity and enrollment. A team must win their sectional championship, which has always been the case since the State Bowl Game structure was put in place in '06.
To give you an idea of what sections were placed where, please click here to read the CIF news release.
But the best summary I can give you is...once again...on December 12th this year, the Selection Committee will meet and determine the teams that will play for the titles the following week on December 17th and 18th.

Former Los Gatos HS Football Coach Dies After 30 Year Battle with ALS
by Jeff Fisher
California High School Football Huddle
I have to admitted, there are days that I'm just so angry at the way things are going, that I just want to go hide and not return for several days!
Then I come across a story like the one of former Los Gatos head football coach Charlie Wedemeyer, who passed away Thursday after a 30-year battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease.
I guess I really don't have to say much more than enjoy the well written article by Mark Purdy of the Mercury News, who tells the story of a man, who certainly should make all of us realize how lucky we are ...and there should never be days to go and hide.
If you'd like to learn more about Charlie and his wife Lucy's story, go to Charlie Wedemeyer Family Outreach at www.cwfo.org.
