You can't beat the De La Salle by turning the ball over and making mistakes.  And, that's what Corona Centennial did in Saturday night's CIF Open Division championship game between the two.

Corona Centennial put the ball on the ground seven times, losing three fumbles in a 48-24 loss to the Spartans, who won their fourth straight Open Division title.  The Huskies were also penalized 12 times in the game.

Despite a 28-7 halftime deficit, the Huskies did try to make a game of it in the second half, but could only get within 14 points.

PE.com reports that the Huskies still put-up some impressive offensive numbers in the game, which closed-out a record-setting year for the offense.

by Jeff Fisher
California High School Football Huddle

After seven straight San Diego Section Division II titles Oceanside's streak is over.

Helix, a team that lost four times to the Pirates during the streak, beat them 44-6 on Monday to capture the title, plus a possible berth in the State Bowl Championships that will be announced this Sunday.

The Highlanders raced-out to a 24-0 halftime lead and never looked back.  Michael Adkins sealed the deal in the third quarter with touchdown runs of 25 and 61 yards.  Adkins finished with 137 yards on only 9 carries.

After an season opening loss to Eastlake, Helix has now ripped-off 12 straight wins.

California High School Football Scores - Playoffs/Sectional Semifinals & Championships

by Jeff Fisher
California High School Football Huddle

Folsom quarterback Tanner Trosin's career came to an end Saturday in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II championship game, but not before becoming the state's best all-time passer and all-purpose player.

Trosin became the first quarterback in state history to top the 5,000 yard passing mark in a single-season with 407 yards in the Bulldogs 39-35 loss to Vacaville.  Trosin ended the season with 5,185 yards passing.  He also rushed for 101 yards on Saturday to become the state's single-season leader in all-purpose yards with 6,349 yards this season.  The senior also ended this year with 69 touchdowns; 49 passing and 20 rushing.

Vacaville improved to 13-1 and now has to sit back and wait for next Sunday when the state's ten section commissioners will be on the state bowl teams.  Folsom finishes 8-3 this season.

California High School Football Scores - Week 5

by Jeff Fisher
The High School Football Huddle

It's been a tough year for nationally-ranked California high school football teams. Only Oaks Christian has been able to hang-on to its pre-season USA Today Super 25 ranking.

First De La Salle tumbled after starting the season #14. Then Servite climbed to #6 before losing to Edison last week. Last night, #16 St. Bonaventure lost in overtime 24-23 to Bishop Amat. According to the LA Times, St. Bonaventure's 14-game win streak was snapped on a blocked extra point in overtime.

Nationally-ranked Edison Needs 2 OTs to Beat Mater Dei

by Jeff Fisher
The High School Football Huddle

Edison has a bye week next week, and the Chargers will need it. For the second straight week, Edison has come-up big against a big opponent.

Proving last week's win over nationally-ranked Servite was no fluke, the Chargers took-down Orange County power Mater Dei 36-29. According to the Orange County Register, Edison quarterback Matt Viles was the main reason for the victory.
