Chaminade running back Terrell Newby is this week’s High School Football America/SoCal Player of the Week.

Newby lit-up the scoreboard Friday night with a school record eight touchdowns and 360 yards on just 16 carries in #15 Chaminade’s 78-34 win over Harvard-Westlake in a Mission League showdown between the two schools that entered the game unbeaten in league play.

Jack Pollon was at Friday night’s game and you can listen to his account of Newby’s performance by clicking here to hear his report on High School Football America/SoCal on AM 570 Fox Sports LA. Pollon’s report is around 30-minutes into the link.

Thursday Night High School Football Scoreboard - Week 1

by Jeff Fisher
High School Football America

La Habra High School

We made our first trip to La Habra tonight to watch the Highlanders host La Mirada.

It felt good to be on a field with real grass for the first game since we moved to Los Angeles for the start of High School Football America - SoCal on KLAC AM 570 Fox Sports Radio.  Nothing wrong with turf, but it's hard to beat a natural grass field, in my opinion.

La Mirada improved to 2-0 on the season with an offensive explosion at the start of the game that saw the Matadores score four touchdowns in the first 12-minutes.  After opening a 28-13 first quarter lead, the Matadores, ranked #1 in the CIF-SS Southeast Division, rolled to a 45-27 victory.

La Mirada put over 500 yards in total offense against La Habra's defense.  The victory snaps La Habra's three-game win streak over its nearby rival.

The Matadores were led on offense by senior quarterback Gerry Myres, who tossed three touchdown passes with no interceptions.  6-5 wide receiver Dallis Shipp caught six balls for, two for scores.  Running back Johnny Hills had a big night with two touchdown runs and nearly 200 yards rushing.

La Mirada head coach Mike Moschetti was a guest on our inaugural High School Football America - SoCal radio show on AM 570 Fox Sports LA.  You can listen to that interview by clicking here.

Here are the rest of the scores as reported to High School Football America with assists from the Daily Breeze, Daily News, LA Times, The Press-EnterpriseOCVarsity, Ventura County Star and an assist at the end by Ed Gonzalez of the Los Angeles Sports Journal.
