Friday Night Southern California High School Football Scores - Week 2

by Jeff Fisher
High School Football America

El Modeno student section at tonight's game at
Orange Coast College
We got our first look at Orange Lutheran tonight as the Lancers improved to 3-0 under first year head coach Chuck Petersen with a 42-7 win over El Modeno.

OLu jumped-out to a 21-0 halftime lead mixing the run and the pass.  Last week the Lancers only threw the ball once in a win over Damien.

Tonight, the Lancers opened the scoring with a 34 yard touchdown pass from Luke Langdon to Brady Phillips.  Then with under three minutes to go in the first half, Phillips found the end zone when he was on the receiving end of a 75 yard flea flicker.

Now here are the rest of the scores that have been reported to us:

#8 Mater Dei One of the Best Because of Barkley

Mater Dei (Santa Ana, CA) was ranked #8 in the nation in the USA Today Pre-Season Top 25 High School Football Poll.

The reason? Junior quarterback Matt Barkley, who next week will begin his third season as a starter when Mater Dei faces West Covina.

For those of you, who don't know, Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart played at Mater Dei before moving on to his stellar career at USC. At 6-3, 228 pounds, the straight-A student is the envy of any top college football coach in the country.

To read more about Barkley from a story in the LA Times, please click on our headline "Mater Dei One of the Best Because of Barkley".
