By Jeff Fisher

#17 Birmingham Wins LA City Section Championship

Birmingham's great season continued Friday night with its 41-6 win over Carson to capture the CIF Southern Section City title.

The win puts the Lake Balboa squad in position to possibly play for a state championship next week. The three championship match-ups will be announced on Sunday. Birmingham is currently on a 13-game win streak and owns wins over Long Beach Poly, which is currently ranked #23 by USA Today and Sherman Oaks Notre Dame.

The Patriots were led in the title game by running back Milton Knox who scored three touchdowns on 20 carries for 179 yards.

#23 Centennial (CA) Routs Santiago

Santiago thought it would catch nationally ranked Centennial (Corona, CA) off-guard with an opening kickoff on-side kick...itt backfired when they couldn't come-up with the ball.

Centennial (7-1) immediately scored and never looked back in a 69-7 win. Running back Ryan Bass rushed for 214 yards and five scores, while quarterback Matt Scott rushed for 133 yards, ran for a touchdown and tossed two scoring passes.

Centennial had a little extra motivation in this one since last year Santiago protested the Huskies win on the field, saying Centennial used an ineligible coach on the field. The CIF Southern Section ruled in-favor of Santiago, but Centennial won its appeal to Mountain View League principals.
